Baby Thea’s Birth Story | Pretoria Birth Photographer

Baby Thea’s Birth Story as told by mom Dirkie.

Some of baby Thea’s birth photos of a very special VBAC day. Cherished moments for us all. I had a photographer because I didn’t want to be taking photos on cell phones or taking pictures ourselves, like with my c-section. I wanted us to focus our attention on the birth and each other. I had a wonderful supportive husband, doula, midwife and photographer and I am very grateful for you all.

After having a selective c-section in November 2016 with our first little baby boy, I felt extremely emotional, slow recovery, had great difficulty breastfeeding and bonding, the staff weren’t very nice or helpful. I felt robbed like my baby had been ripped from my body. I had allowed myself to be influenced by other’s ideas and never thought to do my own research.

I decided after realizing all this, that with our next baby, I would have a natural birth and avoid the previous experience I had unless it was a medical emergency.

We found out in May 2018 we were expecting and I already knew that I wanted Yolande Maritz to be my midwife and she referred me to Aliki Livanis, who soon became my doula. All our scans and checks were done by her and our back up gynaecologis, Dr De Gouveia.

We had an amazing, uncomplicated water birth. Intact! My midwife was an angel, she told me exactly what I needed to do, and explained how. She has so much compassion!

I’m so grateful for my midwife, my doula and husband for all the support and for creating a calm, tranquil environment to birth our baby in. It was such a blessing to have our toddler there. God is good!
